U.FL, MHF1 and MHF4 Connector Selection Guide

ONELINKMORE engineering guide: Use this reference to narrow the connector or cable configuration before ordering. Always confirm the interface, center contact, impedance, frequency range, mounting style and cable requirements for the specific system.

Start with the exact miniature connector series

U.FL, I-PEX and MHF names are often used loosely in product listings, but miniature RF connectors are not all interchangeable. MHF1-style connectors are commonly associated with U.FL-compatible interfaces, while MHF4 is substantially smaller and is widely used on compact M.2 wireless cards. Confirm the board connector series rather than choosing only by appearance.

What to measure and verify

  • Connector series: U.FL/MHF1, MHF4 or another miniature snap-on interface.
  • Mating height and diameter: Small differences can prevent proper engagement or damage the board connector.
  • Cable family: 0.81 mm, 1.13 mm, RG178 and other miniature coax options have different routing and durability characteristics.
  • External connector: SMA or RP-SMA, male or female, straight or right-angle.
  • Mounting: Bulkhead thread, nut size, sealing ring and available panel thickness.

Typical applications

These assemblies are used in Wi-Fi modules, M.2 cards, embedded radios, IoT gateways, FPV systems, mini PCs and compact antenna installations. The device model alone is not enough to guarantee fit because manufacturers can change connector generations.

Before ordering a production quantity

Validate one sample against the actual board and enclosure. Include the required cable length, routing radius, connector orientation, panel thickness, labeling and packing method when requesting a production quotation.
