This U.FL male-to-female extension cord adds 23 inches (approximately 58cm) of reach to any existing U.FL antenna connection, allowing an internal wireless card, IoT module, or LoRa board's U.FL antenna port to be extended to a more optimal antenna position within a chassis or enclosure. The U.FL male end plugs into the board's existing U.FL female port, and the U.FL female end provides a new connection point for the antenna's U.FL male plug — effectively relocating the antenna connection point without modifying the board or any existing cables.

The 1.37mm double-shielded cable provides better signal integrity than the 1.13mm single-shielded cable used in shorter pigtails, with the double shielding reducing EMI pickup and signal radiation along the cable run. At DC to 6 GHz frequency rating, this extension covers 2.4 GHz WiFi, 5 GHz WiFi, sub-6 GHz 5G NR, and all LoRa/LoRaWAN frequencies (433/868/915 MHz). The 50 ohm impedance is maintained throughout the cable and both connectors.

U.FL connectors (also called IPX, MHF1, AMC, or UMCC) are rated for approximately 30 mating cycles. This extension cord's U.FL female end will experience mating cycles from antenna connections and disconnections — keep unnecessary disconnections to a minimum. The U.FL male end that plugs into the board should be seated once and left undisturbed; repeated removal and reinsertion of U.FL plugs from PCB-mounted sockets risks damaging the solder joint on the board. This cable is NOT compatible with MHF4 connectors used on M.2 NGFF cards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why would I need to extend a U.FL connection?

Common scenarios: a mini PCIe WiFi card installed in a desktop PC needs its antenna cable extended to reach antenna mounts on the case exterior; a LoRa module inside a sealed enclosure needs its antenna connection extended to a panel-mount N-female or SMA-female connector on the enclosure wall; a small IoT board inside a project box needs an external antenna for better wireless performance; or an existing U.FL pigtail cable is too short to reach the desired antenna position. This extension cord adds 23 inches of reach without re-terminating any existing cables.

Q: Will extending the U.FL cable cause signal loss?

Yes, all cable has insertion loss. At 2.4 GHz, 1.37mm double-shielded cable has approximately 0.5–0.8 dB/meter of attenuation. At 23 inches (58cm), this translates to approximately 0.3–0.5 dB of additional loss compared to a direct U.FL connection — a small but measurable reduction in signal strength. In most practical applications (WiFi at home, LoRa gateway within normal range), this loss is not significant enough to meaningfully affect performance. For long cable runs where loss is critical, lower-loss cables with larger diameters are preferable.

Q: Is this compatible with M.2 NGFF wireless cards?

No. M.2 NGFF cards (Intel 7260, 8260, 8265, 9260, AX200, etc.) use MHF4 connectors, which are smaller than U.FL (approximately 1.6mm versus 2mm). This extension cord has U.FL connectors sized for Mini PCIe cards and similar U.FL-port devices. MHF4 and U.FL are not interchangeable. For M.2 NGFF cards, use MHF4-to-MHF4 extension cables or MHF4 pigtails specifically sized for those connectors.

Q: How do I connect and disconnect U.FL connectors safely?

To connect: align the U.FL male plug over the U.FL female socket and press straight down with a fingertip until it clicks into place. To disconnect:
